I tried to show that in the table but I will gladly expand upon it, thank you!

Ice blue (norm) gave me a formula for figuring stocking numbers. Its tank size plus 1/2 the tank size divided by the average size of the fish. Example 55+27.5=82.5 then divided by 4 inches for Cobues average size = 20.6

Brian the Nkhata Bay group I have from you has been in a 20L since i got them What has that been now a year or more. They are doing great. They spawn constantly and I have all the fry in separate tanks. There are 15 in the main group and I have never seen any aggression. I have told myself that they need to be in a bigger tank but then I look at how well they are doing and I say no, they will stay where their at. I am not to sure about tank size being a real big factor as long as you have enough fish in there to spread any aggression around. I also do water changes once a week. If you ever want some of the fry back let me know i can work out a good deal for you or anyone. I don't know in this situation if I would put another species into this tank because of the group size. I would not hesitate to put 2 different species into this footprint if it was 2 smaller groups. As long as you have enough cover and you watch them for awhile. Which to me would be until the first couple of spawns. To watch for aggression and for hybridization. After those two problems have been shown to work I believe these fish will live very happily together.

How does this work with calculating multiple species per tank? I think this would work pretty good with species only, but how do you figure how the 55g should be divided up between 3 different species with a range of sizes?

Jeff, good to hear the Nkhata's are doin' good for you in a small tank. I'll probably snag some of the fry from you in the future. :thumb:

As norm explained it to me you would take the average size for each fish. So if one group was 4, one 5 and one 6 you would have an average size of 5 inches if you had the same number of fish for each group. Its like any other rule though it varies and really is just a guide to get started.
